Card Tech: Fracturing Lust
Fracturing Lust, a 1 red Ener spell, which makes each player burn his/her Ener until 4 cards are left in the Ener zone. A common spell teched in most Wixoss decks in the current meta, the question is should you be adding it into your deck?
Things to note:
- (+) This card does not have a life burst, thus you need not take it into consideration when deciding which 20 life burst your deck should consider
- (+) This card only costs one Ener, thus it can be easily paid for by any multi Ener/Red cards in your Ener zone
- (+) Spell Activation for Wixoss happens in the main phrase, thus, if you have more than 5 ener, you can spend your Ener on Arts beforehand, and cast this spell afterwards
- (+) One of the easiest ways to control and restrict your opponents Ener.
- (-) The cost while it is 1 ener, is still red, thus this means you need a multi ener in your ener zone assuming you don't play a mostly red deck, which may not happen most of the time
- (-) It is quite restrictive in the sense that it is a spell, thus its effect can be negated by Anti-Spell and other cards with Spell Cut In.
- (-) It is a Promo card and may be hard/expensive to obtain for newer players. (Reprinted in WX09)
- (-) It burns the ener of both player, so if you have quite an amount of Ener left in your Ener Zone, you may be doing yourself more harm than your opponent. Use with caution.
Possible combos with this card:
- Fracturing Lust + Rekindling Effort
A frequent combo seen in many Yuzuki/Hanayo decks. After casting Fracturing Lust, they cast rekindling effort leaving the opponent at 2 ener, greatly incapacitating them from using Arts with high cost such as Ancient Surprise, which can allow the opponent to survive. However, as Rekindling Effort is an Arts and Fracturing Lust is a spell, your opponent can cast Idol Defense for free so survive, so do use this combo with care. - Fracturing Lust + Lock You
This was the combo that ended games for Piruluk and Remember until Idol Defense came out. By using this combo, you basically restrict your opponent to survive using arts with 1 ener, which normally, is impossible, allowing for players to go for the win. Possible Arts that can be used include: Dead Splash (against Remember), Body and Soul (against Piruluk), Halo Effect (If 3 arts are used) and Soap Summon are just some possible examples. Also, this combo also suffers from the opponent being able to use Idol Defense to Survive. An alternative way of countering all the above problems is to open another Lock You, which makes your opponent totally with no response. But if you do tech in 2 Lock You inside your deck, you may suffer from a lack of slot for other useful Arts. - Fracturing Lust + Mayu's Exceed 5
Since when you use Mayu's Exceed 5, you need to place all your cards in your ener and hand into the trash, you might choose to charge a Servant and cast Fracturing Lust before using her Exceed 5, this way your opponent only has 4 ener to survive 2 turns of relentless attacks.
How Fracturing Lust might prove disadvantageous:
- If Fracturing Lust ends up in your ener zone, due to it being a crushed life cloth and you have no way to use the red ener, leaving you with a useless ener. To get over this, play arts with colourless costs, and to pay of the colourless costs, use the red ener. Recommended Arts include: Ancient Surprise for Black LRIGS,Don't Escape for Blue LRIGS, Pinch Defense for White LRIGS, Vanish Like Mist for Green LRIGS.
When to use the Fracturing Lust in your hand:
- When you did stuff during your turn that resulted in your opponent having a lot more ener than he/she usually would. For example, a Umr player cast Lost Technology, resulting in 2 life cloth of the opponent being crushed, resulting in four extra Ener for the opponent, considering that you had already spent Ener this turn, it is a worthwhile trade to cast fracturing lust.
- To prevent your opponent from making big plays. Lets say your opponent is at 11 Ener and it is your turn, your opponent seems to play a decent amount of green cards that help him/her to ener charge quickly, even though he or she may not be playing a green LRIG. There is probably a high chance that your opponent is playing Late Bloomer, thus casting Fracturing Lust would allow you to survive and would be a worthwhile trade-off.
- If you are playing an aggro build, your opponent will tend to have quite an amount of Ener due to all the SIGNI you banish and the Life Cloths you crushes earlier game, thus opening Fracturing Lust will result in your opponent losing the Ener advantage that may be used to defend against your attacks.
